About the
SUMMIT ON JUSTICE & DISPARITIES

WE GATHER TO WORK COLLABORATIVELY TO CHANGE THIS!

Ten years ago, the Iowa Summit on Justice & Disparities was founded to address Iowa’s notorious distinction of ranking number one in the nation for disproportionately incarcerating African Americans and other minorities. Over the years, through the work of dedicated advocates, engaged officials and keen practitioners we have seen slight improvement and Iowa now ranks number 9 in the nation for disproportionality.  From this work, we knew that there are many that can and should feel the benefit of the groundwork that we paved in Iowa and we are proud that the Summit is now here in this state.  We are here to improve justice outcomes, and we are here for change!

The Summit on Justice & Disparities is:
  • A call to action for those who believe that America can do better

  • Strategy sessions for those committed to criminal justice reforms that represent equity for everyone

  • The epicenter for learning about the multi-dimensional justice system(s) and steps, legislation, policies, and best practices that are essential to addressing gaps

  • An engaging experience that breaks down silos as we approach disproportionate minority confinement together

  • An opportunity to be the change you wish to see in the world

This content-packed event, through workshops, power panels and keynotes will deliver:
  • Status updates on the juvenile and criminal justice systems including the impact of new laws

  • Keynotes, workshops, and power panels that include national and local success models for addressing disproportionate minority contact
